Audio shapes how people understand a story and how neighboring experiences coexist. Speaker choice, placement, level, content and the room itself all contribute to the result.
The Fundamentals
Speaker selection depends on the application: ceiling speakers for ambient audio, directional speakers for focused zones, subwoofers for immersive bass, and personal audio (via Lory®) for individualized delivery. The wrong speaker in the wrong location can ruin an otherwise excellent exhibit.
Common Mistakes
- Choosing a loudspeaker without matching its coverage, output and mounting to the application.
- Leaving reflective surfaces and reverberation outside the design discussion.
- Placing loudspeakers where they compete with adjacent exhibits.
- Overlooking listening positions, background noise and the intelligibility required.
The Mad Approach
Mad designs the audio system around the environment. QuickSilver® can provide configured playback, synchronization and level control, while acoustic treatment, physical separation, loudspeaker behavior and program material shape the actual listening result. Level controls alone cannot guarantee that one exhibit is inaudible at the next.
